SODES FCU Partnership
Healthcare Plus Federal Credit Union and SODES Federal Credit Union have partnered as of April 1, 2015. We welcome all SODES members in to the Healthcare Plus FCU Family! The SODES office in the Department of Labor building on Roosevelt will be closing on Friday, May 29, 2015. All services will be available to our members at both Healthcare Plus FCU's two locations on Dakota Street and State Street (in Avera St. Luke's).
Healthcare Plus Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce the recipients of its Education Scholarship Program. Healthcare Plus FCU established a scholarship program as part of its commitment to higher education. The scholarships are awarded annually to three deserving graduating seniors or currently enrolled full-time college, university, or vocational students who are members of Healthcare Plus FCU. Awards will be presented to the winning recipients at Healthcare Plus FCU’s Annual Meeting on Friday, April 24, 2015. Awards for those unable to attend will be sent to the high schools where recipients attend.
Healthcare Plus FCU also offers a $500 Educator Appreciation Scholarship is to be used to increase financial literacy in the classroom. Please contact Healthcare Plus FCU for more information.
As part of the scholarship application, each of the applicants wrote an essay on the topic “What is the importance of effective money management and financial literacy and how can Healthcare Plus FCU’s products and services assist them reach their goals?”
Receiving scholarships in the amount of $500 are:
Maryn Howard, daughter of Jeff and Lisa Howard, of Groton, S.D. She plans to attend South Dakota State University and pursue a career in nursing. Maryn credits her understanding of financial literacy to her personal finance class, which is a requirement for graduation, and putting that knowledge to work managing her own personal money.
Lindsey Hahler, daughter of Mark and Jeanette Hahler, from Aberdeen, S.D. Lindsey is attending South Dakota State University and studying the field of nursing. Lindsey stated in her essay that her parents, who opened a saving account for her early in life, and the finance professionals who have assisted her thus far are to thank for her understanding of financial literacy and money management. She expressed the importance of maintaining your financial responsibilities in order to meet your future credit needs.
Tara Heinz, daughter of Michael and Kelly Heinz, from Ipswich, S.D. Tara is set to enroll this fall at South Dakota State University and begin her studies in the health care field. Tara admits that the word “credit” can be intimidating but learning from her parents and completing a mandatory personal finance course has helped her feel more prepared for her future.
